View Full Version : Casino v2 preview

Here is a little preview of the next version, the casino and what was going to be a separate board game addition are getting combined into one product. The games that are in there work, but have some polishing needed (things like payout charts and rules)
The lobby / chat room also works, but is very minimal and is still being worked on.
Casion v2 / Gameroom (http://vbgaming.org/forum/casino.html)
far from complete, but gives a idea on where I am headed with this.
Next on the list:
- Lobby - Make that chatroom a little nicer, then make it embeddable in other parts of the product (ie multiplayer games)
- Poker (conversion to the new frontend and expansion for other rule sets)
- Chess (Backend is done, front end needs implemented.
- A bunch of other games / features but until they are actually something concrete I'm not going to put things in writing on them ;)
In the end, this should be a pretty major improvement over the first casino :)
PS - You have to be logged in or you will just throw error messages (like I said, WIP)
Very nice!!
Looking forward to this one (especially the poker table...) :D

Poker should be up here for testing / demo fairly soon. Basically it plays without betting, you can only check and fold... adding in the betting rules is pretty minor on top of that as the structure for it is there, just need to implement the different rule sets.
There is a chess game that is maybe 50% done, backend is pretty much finished but there is no front end, that will probably come next.
Other things I want to do are a couple other poker games (5 card draw, 7 card stud), a few other board games (checkers, reversi, go, etc.)
The board games won't use cash, but I want to add a ladder ranking system to them.
One pretty major structural change I have been considering is turning this into a cross site plugin. So it would be hosted in one place, but users from many other sites can connect. The site they are on would provide account creation info to the server behind the scenes so that users keep there username, and really don't leave the site in any noticeable way. The advantage would be (hopefully) always being able to find opponents.
Cash would still be earned and storred on the various sites, then most likely a component that lets people buy chips or cash out, transferring cash to the game server or back to the host site.
Game moderation - the idea I've been toying with is a voting system too boot players. So if 2/3rds (or whatever other proportion seems to work) vote to kick a person that person is banned from the game.
Anyways, lots of stuff planned, and it will be over time. Once the texas hold'em is running, and a few other pieces that need to go in before hand I'll start looking at opening this up to a few test sites...

played blackjack resulted in all kinds of errors, like be doubling down and winning, but it only awarding me my $10 bet, instead of doubling it.. it telling me i lost when i was below 21, with say 18, the dealer showing a 9, but never flipping his card or showing his total.. then lastly, it hanging and not resetting the cards..
not sure i will like this version as much as i originally thought before christmas.

It's far from done ;)
Blackjack is fixed, but at the time I uploaded that preview (that's all it is, just a peak at where things are going) it was pretty flaky.

Any chance this could be modular? I only really want the hold'em and I don't want anything remotely hosted either.

I would really like to test the hold'em game in one of my forums, so please PM me if you want a tester for that one when it's ready for that.. :)

Like the first one, you'll be able to turn off anything you don't want. But everything will be there, I'm not going to distribute multiple packages.
As for remote hosted, that is still a maybe if it will happen at all. If it does you will likely be able to do either or. With this one I am keeping the integration pieces isolated from the game, goal being making it able to integrate with other systems easily.

Everything sounds like a good idea, except the remote hosting. I think that would be a waste of time, as a majority of peeps would want to edit the code etc to accommodate their particular needs. If your prepared to spend the time to do remote hosting, then i would just recomend porting it to many CMS's/forum software instead.
The other issue i have is game moderation, as that would allow people to kick others who are winning against them regardless of weather or not they are breaking the rules. Leave it to the admins/moderators to ban or kick. However, having said that, i think it would be a good idea for moderator tools to be implemented, such as a moderator being able to peak into a game to see what's going on, without influencing it, like a referee or something like that.

Basic Moderator options will be there, however if the hosted option does ever get off the ground there won't be mods as it will be players from different sites.

Should be able to post a update this weekend for this demo, texas holdem mostly works. Need to do some testing, but it is playing 3 sets of betting rules (Limit, No-Limit and Pot Limit) right now :)

hey Andrew great job on this plug in man, since i have added it to my forums its been a big hit and everyone loves it, any updates on v2?
Andrew Green
02-13-2009, 11:07 AM
It's moving along.
I'm hoping to get a update to the demo up soon, the texas hold'em plays, but doesn't do anything with money unless there is a stake set, mainly because I'm still doing a little testing.
The stake is basically a option to set how much each person joins with, and add a multiplier to that. So if you put a $100 stake with a x200 multiplier everyone buys in for $100 and starts with $20,000. Makes no-limit games possible without giving a big advantage to the people with the most cash :)
Combine with the ability to have multiple games running, passworded games and tournaments should be a lot more doable too.
Andrew Green

preview files have been updated.
Texas Hold'em is mostly working, and should be playable. If you set a stake it is not tied to the forum cash in any way right now, 3 betting structures are available.
board games tab doesn't really do much, just gives a chatroom (which is linked to the lobby) right now... games will fill that in soon.
The betting piece can now add and settle bets, although that's hidden from non-admins, but it is working.
Still a fair bit to do, but it is coming along.
Looking better and better!!
Can't wait to install the new texas holdem game on my site when it's done, that's the most important game there as I see it. :)

cookies on vbgaming.org are not the same as on www.vbgaming.org (http://www.vbgaming.org), so if you logged in with the www that might do it. Try this:

(I also updated the first post, should solve it there too)
I'm going to take a guess, but are you logged in? ;)
I did post here, so I think so.. :p
It's working now, it was the missing www. that caused the error.. :)
Edit: not able to start a poker game, nothing happens when I click the "start game" button.
And I have $0 in there as well now so I can't test the other games..

Have you ever worked on a project in your life? Have you ever had a life to begin with? The programmer makes updates from time to time- he doesn't have time to sit around and asnwer questions "any news any news any news" every 3 days - if there was news he'd post it... he also doesn't have the time to worry about spammers... He's put a lot of work into this and the previous casino and he doesn't need people asking about the status every week and he certainly doesn't need people pronouncing it dead... HAVE PATIENCE... did you pay for this? No you didn't... so here's 3 choices:
1: STFU
2: Make your own Casino
3: STFU

It has been over a month since his last update. True, he does not even have to update us at all. But since he is kinda enough. Some of us that are willing to donate to the new casino...and that have a newer version of vbulletin...are curious as to how things are going...That way we can have fun with the newer version.

Also the premise this place was over-run by spammers? Development comes and goes as my time allows, spring meant a fair bit of stuff needing to get done around the house, combined with a good influx at the "real" job meant a little lull.
This is a pretty large project, especially for something being done in my spare time. Things are coming, but it will be in spurts.
